Hans Raj Hans
Hans Raj Hans is an Indian singer, subsequently a politician. He is a Bharatiya Janata Party member and Padma Shri's civil honour holder.
He sings Punjabi traditional and Sufi music as well as movies, and launched his own 'Punjabi-pop' albums. He worked with other musicians including Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in Kachche Dhaage movie.
Early life
Hans Raj Hans was born in Shafipur, near Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Jalandhar graduated from DAV College.
Ustad Puran Shah Koti trained Hans in singing during his teen years.
Musical career
Hans learnt from Charanjit Ahuja as a youth. Then he started singing folk, devotional and Sufi Punjabi. He worked in Kachche Dhaage with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Hans was an honorary professor at Washington DC University and San Jose State University.
Political career
Hans joined Shiromani Akali Dal in January 2009 and fought Jalandhar, Punjab, India, in May of that year.
He resigned on December 18, 2014 and joined the National Congress in February 2016.
He joined Bharatiya Janata on December 10, 2016.
In 2019, he replaced Udit Raj as the contender to represent North West Delhi.
