Lucas Joaquin is a New York City-based freelance creative producer and a co-founder of the production business Secret Engine alongside Drew Houpt and Alex Scharfman. He has produced feature films for some of the most innovative voices in modern cinema through Secret Engine.
Joaquin most recently produced Karen Cinorre's feature film MAYDAY, which starred Grace Van Patten, Mia Goth, Havana Rose Liu, Soko, and Juliette Lewis and premiered in competition at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and worldwide at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Other recent films include Braden King's THE EVENING HOUR, which premiered in competition at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and will be distributed by Strand Releasing in North America; and Tayarisha Poe's SELAH AND THE SPADES, which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was distributed by Amazon Studios, who are developing a series based on the film.
BLOW THE MAN DOWN (dir. Bridget Savage-Cole & Danielle Krudy), which premiered in competition at the 2019 Tribeca and Toronto International Film Festivals and was released earlier this year by Amazon Studios; and Ira Sachs' FRANKIE, starring Isabelle Huppert and Marisa Tomei, which premiered in competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and was released in the US by Sony Pictures Classics.
DUST, directed by Karrie Crouse and Will Joines, with Claire Foy to star, is currently in development at Searchlight and is on the 2020 Blacklist; DEATH OF A UNICORNE, written and to be directed by Alex Scharfman, is currently in development at A24; and Russell Harbaugh's COMPOUND are among the upcoming projects.
Joaquin produced a number of films before co-founding Secret Engine, including Ira Sachs' KEEP THE LIGHTS ON, LOVE IS STRANGE, and LITTLE MEN.
Joaquin was a Sundance Creative Producing Lab Fellow in 2012, a nominee for the Independent Spirit Awards Producing Award in 2021, and a longtime employee of Parts & Labor Productions.
