Mr. Cheong has a strong background in nutrition science. He is a dynamic public speaker who is well-known for his nutrition science presentations, Amway Queen demonstrations, and motivational seminars. In Greater China, Hong Kong, and Macau, he is referred to as "God of iCook" ().
Pui-kuong has lived in Macau his entire life and has tried a variety of careers after graduating from high school before settling on being a firefighter. The only options available in Macau at the time were to be a labourer or a public servant, and there weren't many of them. “I assumed that working as a firefighter would provide me with a more solid income,” says Pui-kuong. “I was wrong.”
The promotion of Chinese public officials into high posts was extremely difficult during Macau's colonial era. When Pui-kuong realised that he hadn't accomplished anything in his nine years as a firefighter, he decided to create a motor company with his pals in order to make a living. However, due to their lack of prior business knowledge, the company did not endure long in the market.
Pui-kuong had made an investment in stocks, and he did gain some money – at least until the stock market crashed in 1987, when he suffered massive losses. His confidence began to erode as a result of his recurrent failures.
Despite this, Pui-kuong continued to look for new options, and it was his cousin who first introduced him to the Amway business possibility. Due to the fact that the Macau Merchandising Center had not yet opened, Pui-kuong was required to fly to Hong Kong once or twice a week in order to attend Amway business meetings.

When he was younger, Pui-kuong was in bad health due to a congenital condition.
