SA8 received the highest possible score in the January 2007 issue of Consumer Reports, getting 99 out of 100. (the next best, Tide with Bleach, scored 87). Only detergent was "excellent" in all three Cleaning, Dirt-Dissolving, and Dye-Bleaching criteria. It does not include NPEs, which are toxic to the environment. SA8 was not considered a "Best Buy" by Consumer Reports due to the 61c cost/load. Quixtar asserts their load cost is around 23 cents, roughly equal to other companies.

Access Business Group manufactures and sells various washing detergents, including SA8, a brand offered by Amway and Quixtar. The 1960s saw the release of Amway's second product, SA8. L.O.C. was one of the world's first biodegradable, concentrated multi-purpose cleansers, launched by Amway. Like L.O.C., SA8 was biodegradable, another first in the detergent industry.

The product was also among the first concentrated detergents, using less powder every wash. Direct-selling company employees, as Amway distributors, might discuss the costs and benefits of the concentrated form. Later on, competing manufacturers including as Tide introduced concentrated and biodegradable versions, reducing SA8's advantages.
