Nutrilite Amway
Nutrilite is a brand of vitamins, minerals and nutritional supplements founded in 1934 by Dr. Carl F. Rehnborg.
It is currently manufactured by Access Business Group, a subsidairy of Alticor.
The Nutrilite brand is known as Nutriway in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.
The founders of Amway began marketing Nutrilite products in 1949.
Amway obtained a controlling interest in the company in 1972, and took over entire ownership in 1994. [1]
Nutrilite's vitamin and mineral products are distributed only by Quixtar affiliates known as Independent Business Owners (IBO) in North America and Amway IBOs in more than 90 other countries and territories.
Amway, Quixtar, and Access Business Group, are subsidiaries of Alticor.
Nutrilite claims to be the first worldwide vitamin and mineral business to produce, harvest and process plants on their own certified organic farms.
Nutrilite farming practices include soil solarization, an integrated pest management system and utilize sustainable agricultural production strategies.
Nutrilite's organic farms are located in California, Washington State, Mexico, and Brazil.
[2]. Many Nutrilite goods supplied in other countries are also made locally, for example in India [3] Nutrilite notes that their products may sometimes incorporate ingredients from plants cultivated not at their own farms [4].
Awards and Commendations
Nutrilite has been voted the world's premier brand of vitamin, mineral, and dietary supplement for the past three years by Euromonitor International[5, the world's leading provider of business intelligence and strategic market analysis].
In 2001, five Nutrilite products became the first dietary supplements to be certified by NSF International, marking a significant milestone in the industry.
[6]
Consumerlabs.com, an independent research organisation, awarded Nutrilite the highest possible customer satisfaction rating of 96 percent in a poll conducted in 2004. [7]
In the Reader's Digest "Trusted Brands of Asia" poll, Nutrilite received "Platinum" awards in Malaysia and "Gold Awards" in Taiwan, Thailand, and Asia as a whole in the category of nutrition and health foods.
[8]
Amway launched The Quest for Nutrition campaign in 2004, the same year Nutrilite celebrated its 70th anniversary, in an effort to improve the brand's reputation and raise awareness of Nutrilite products. [9].
One example of this was a collaboration between Alticor and Mandalay Sports Action Entertainment, through their Nutrilite Health Institute (the goal of which is to build the global Nutrilite brand through research and education), to produce a one-hour documentary-style programme called Quest for Nutrition, as well as a series of 15 public service commercials titled Health Moments, which were all broadcast on the Discov network.
[10] The sponsored documentary recounts the science and history of how nutritional supplements can be used to improve personal health.
It highlights Carl Rehnborg, the originator of Nutrilite, and promotes the Nutrilite Health Institute, which is featured in the documentary.
[11] [12] It was one of six videos to win Best of Show at the 2004 Accolade Competition [11], and the Quest for Nutrition campaign, which includes Health Moments, has garnered more than 30 accolades from the television, advertising, and marketing industries, including Auroras and Tellys. [10]
The International Visual Communication Association (IVCA) honoured Nutrilite with a Clarion Award (International Trade Award) in 2006 for its film Perfect Balance, which was produced by LIVE Communication Ltd. The award was presented to Amway, and the film was produced by LIVE Communication Ltd.
The film describes Nutrilite's organic farming philosophy as well as their dedication to long-term development and sustainability.
The IVCA described the film as follows:
"A highly imaginative and well produced film, created for the Nutrilite Health Institute's immersive audio visual experience in the United States." [13]
Marketing and endorsements are two important aspects of every business.
Nutrilite announced in April 2006 that they had signed Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell, the current World Record holder in the 100-meter sprint, to serve as a global ambassador for their products.
Asafa attributes the use of Nutrilite vitamins to his ability to overcome low energy levels in 2005.
He said that he began using the supplements three months before he broke the world record for the fastest time. [14].
Earlier this year, Liu Xiang of China, the world record holder in the 110m men's hurdles and the Olympic champion in 2004, was recruited as the company's second worldwide spokesperson. For the years 2000, 2004, and 2008, Nutrilite has also served as the official supplement for the China Olympic Team.
Asafa Powell and Liu Xiang were also named as spokespeople of the Nutrilite brand in September 2007, joining World Female Athlete of the Year Sanya Richards, who holds the American 400m record, and pole vault record holder Jenn Stuzynski, who formed Team Nutrilite with the others.
A fourth member of Team Nutrilite was announced in February 2008 when Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho of the Barcelona team was named.
