According to Jim King, "we weren't really intrigued when a buddy introduced us to this chance," but because they did not know how to say "no" gracefully, they registered nonetheless.
Afterwards, we took a closer look and realised that the business was sound.”
The Kings were already well-traveled around the world.
Mary was a licenced practical nurse who had previously worked in Guam, Colombia, and Guatemala.
Jim had worked as the Chief of Surgery for the government of Guam, as a Peace Corps physician in South and Central America, as Director of Family Health Services for the Pan American Health Organization, and as Deputy Director, Office of International Health, United States Public Health Service.
He was also the father of two children.
“Our oldest kid tried all he could to get us to go out of the business,” Jim recalls. It made him feel bad about himself that his father, who is a physician, would be doing this.
Later on, though, he made the decision to join us. All of our boys are now working alongside us.
Mary was able to start doing more things as a result of this. And I'd be able to retire while I was still young enough to enjoy life to the fullest.
