Macdonald, Pat & Suzanne Amway

Macdonald, Pat & Suzanne

"When your children hear about your ambitions, you'll break down barriers to see them through to fruition."

Founder Pat MacDonald explains how he and his wife, Suzanne, came up with three reasons for starting their company.

The children, Lauren, Joanna, and Joshua, are ours.

When Suzanne was forced to put her eldest in a daycare centre and return to work because the family needed the money, the MacDonalds stopped seeing their new business as a "someday" venture and started working on it right away.

They were well aware that it could provide them with some financial choices.

They were struggling to make ends meet because Pat's employment as a corporate medical sales representative and Suzanne's teaching post were not enough.

It wasn't simple, though, for them to kick their business into high gear.

"It was quite tough for us to leave our daughter in a daycare while we worked our jobs and with sitters at night while we shared the business with other people," explains Suzanne.

"That was the most difficult part. Although it was difficult, we managed to get through it and eventually were able to work from home and be present for our children.

We are really grateful for this business, as well as the lovely people we have encountered along our journey!"
