Riley, Larry & Linda
An Army veteran, he oversaw a multimillion-dollar budget for one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies.
In her previous job, she worked as an account executive for one of the country's leading public relations agencies.
They had an eight-year-old kid who went to a famous private school, and they were struggling financially. They were doing well by most people's standards, and they were happy.
As was the case for many others in the corporate rat race, extended work hours and time away from family contributed to a stressful way of life for him.
As a result, when Linda was approached by a stranger about a business opportunity in November 1979, she was fascinated by the opportunity.
She invited some of her friends over to their townhouse in suburban Maryland for a meeting, and as Larry playfully puts it, "Since I lived there, she invited me as well!"
Larry and Linda recognised the potential of their new venture and jumped into it with both feet and all of their might.
It took them only six months to achieve the status of Silver Producers, and it took them only 21 months to become qualified Emerald Directs.
Not that they went Diamond, but rather that it took them 15 years after going Emerald before they did, is something that most people who are unfamiliar with their journey are surprised to learn.
"Though we were unhappy that we were unable to advance to the Diamond level sooner, we appreciated the privileges that we were able to take use of while at the Emerald level," says Larry.
Linda was able to leave her employment and devote her time solely to raising their son, Larry Jr., once the couple achieved Platinum status.
Larry was able to resign from his position in 1994 as well. They had long since moved out of their townhouse and are now living in a custom-built home with a collection of luxury automobiles that includes a Cadillac, a Conversion Van, and a Jaguar.
As parents, one of Larry and Linda's primary motivations was to provide the finest possible environment for their kid.
Because they were aware of his desire to attend the United States Air Force Academy, they were able to assist him in his preparation by sending him to a private flight academy.
Traveling was also a form of reward for the entire family. "Our family trip to Berlin in 1990 was very memorable for all of us," Linda recalls.
"It was immediately following the fall of the Berlin Wall, and we were able to witness firsthand what freedom meant to the people of Eastern Europe, as well as how significant our ability to establish this business truly is."
While life at the Emerald level was obviously rewarding, Larry and Linda never lost sight of their ultimate goal of reaching Diamond.
After relocating to Atlanta as a result of a job relocation, they made the decision to devote themselves to resettling in Diamond. They desired to be in command of their lives so that they would never again be forced to relocate away from friends, business colleagues, and a place that they cherished and found welcoming.
"We are frequently asked how we have managed to keep the Diamond dream alive throughout the years," Larry explains. "We were looking for a lifestyle that could only be provided by Diamond. We desired the respect of the people that we admired and admired us in return.
Most importantly, we wanted to be recognised as an example of how the American Dream is true and that it recognises no boundaries based on race, colour, religion, or any other criteria except those you place on yourself."
