Chris and Judy Cherest are Diamond Independent Business Owners.
When Judy and I first discovered this business, we were just starting out on our dating journey, with no plans beyond tomorrow, no commitments, and very few absolutes in the form of values. Because the world of average thinking had triumphed over the nave hopes and ambitions of our youth, No money, no free time, and no actual friends, only acquaintances, were all that we have.
What we discovered was a firm founded on principles and values, as well as an environment that celebrated the notion of realising one's full potential and defining one's own self worth. The downside risks and headaches of traditional enterprises are absent from this venture, which eliminates the need for us to spend our time continually dealing with damage management.
We became enthused fast, and armed with the confidence that comes with being inexperienced, we demonstrated our business strategy to 150 people in the first six months before sponsoring our first pair. However, as Bill Britt points out, we hammered on the piano for a long enough period of time that we eventually learned how to play. We went Platinum, then Ruby, and then purchased both of our freedoms, all within three years of each other, allowing us to concentrate on reaching Emerald and Diamond in the following years.
It's been over two decades since Judy and I have worked for anyone else. Wake up whenever we want, spend our days with the people we've decided to love the most in life, and individually raise our three lovely girls, Kristen, Courtney, and Jennifer - it's a wonderful feeling! We have no bills, and we spend our time doing "family activities," rather than "things that must be done to make a money." It is the wonderful life... to be able to do what you want rather than what you have to do.
Having the support of friends, the spiritual grounding we had gained through our studies, financial security, and the time to care for Judy while she was recuperating in the hospital and at home was extremely beneficial when Judy was diagnosed with a serious illness a few years ago. This would not have been the case had we not gotten involved in our business, building ourselves and others while we could, so that the business we had created could take care of us when we couldn't.
Having the privilege of truly owning yourself; of having the leisure time to get up when rested; to spend an afternoon lying in a hammock; to work out at the spa; to go golfing or shopping with your buddies; to have lunch with your spouse or friends; to participate in sporting events; to share important moments with your children; to spend your entire life on vacation; or to simply stay at home and enjoy your life.
We have what the majority of the world is looking for: a life filled with purpose. We are ecstatic about what we have been given, but much more so about the lives that will be touched as a result of our efforts and the incredible vision that we will undoubtedly fulfil in the future.
