When I was an Amway Independent Business Owner (IBO), I recall many meetings where the speaker would talk about how Amway IBOs are assisting people by enrolling them in the business or at the very least by demonstrating the plan. When I look back, I don't understand how inviting someone into a business where they are virtually guaranteed to lose money (because of the systems) is beneficial to them. This is also how some IBOs come to believe that they have suddenly become "better" people because they believe that their work as an IBO is assisting others.
On average, Amway products are more expensive than those sold by retailers, so a prospect's decision to purchase Amway products is counterproductive because they are paying a higher price. Purchasing Amway products by independent business owners (IBOs) means that they are taking money away from their local economy, although one could argue that the IBO is assisting Amway in its efforts to succeed.
The majority of IBOs who are actively building a business have a large number of meetings to attend, and hard core IBOs are taught not to miss any of these meetings. So an IBO has less time to spend with his or her family and friends as a result of their work. The IBO has less time to devote to church activities and less time to volunteer for any community projects as a result. Because of the hectic schedule of an IBO, it is likely that the IBO will miss someone's wedding or birthday celebration. It's all part of the commitment to the Amway business and the Amway system of teaching that I have.
While all of this activity is taking place, IBOs are also experiencing a decrease in their financial resources as a result of voicemail, standing order, functions, and books, among other expenses. As a result, IBOs have less money to donate to charity or even to spend on their own entertainment and enjoyment.
So here's an open and honest question. How do Independent Business Owners (IBOs) help people by building an Amway business? Is it possible that showing someone the plan or sponsoring them into a business that virtually guarantees they will lose money makes them better people?
As far as I'm aware, the nicer and better person is something that upline emphasizes as a side note in order to distract an IBO from the FACT that they are losing money as a result of the de facto 100 PV and tools requirements. They also give the impression that IBOs are "assisting" people by displaying the business plan to them. After all, it's possible that the exact opposite is taking place. This is another tactic, in my opinion, that uplines employ to justify an IBO's lack of progress, much in the same way that they tell downline that they are successful simply by attending an event. If you are an independent business owner (IBO) or a prospect, please read this article thoroughly.
