One of the most common techniques Amway promoters use to entice prospects to join is to get them to think about their financial dreams and goals that they would like to accomplish. After all, who wouldn't want to be retired at the age of 35 and strolling along the shores of exotic beaches around the world while sipping mai tais? Or, alternatively, who wouldn't want to live a life of leisure and excitement, with endless influxes of cash to fund all of the fun and frivolity that life has to offer? Of course, the majority of people are enthused by this.
Unfortunately, as a result of people's involvement in Amway, many of the things that they are enthusiastic about or the things that they join for are often no longer available. Many independent business owners (IBOs) have their bank accounts drained as a result of the leach organisations that have joined the Amway business. As a result, they are forced to quit with their dreams dashed. These organisations, such as the WWBD or the BWW, will promote their materials as the key to success in the Amway organisation. However, in reality, these organisations make substantial profits while virtually bankrupting the IBOs in their downline. What's even more tragic is that the system does not produce the kind of success that is advertised. We're talking about less than 0.5 percent of the population reaching the platinum level, which is supposedly the point at which you break even or make a small profit. That's hardly something to be proud of, is it? What happened to the fruit on the tree that my upline leaders were talking about?
During my time in the business, uplines instructed us to purchase all of the necessary materials. Books, standing orders tapes/cds/audios, functions, and other materials are all available for checkout. In fact, upline requested that IBOs purchase an additional 5-7 tapes or CDs each week in addition to their regular standing order. After all, you should be exposed to new material on a daily basis, right? In fact, upline wished for people to "invest" or spend all of their earnings on these materials in order to achieve success. In an open meeting setting, a diamond stated that your family could skip a meal in order to obtain another tape or CD because the information was so valuable that you might hear the one thing that propels you to the diamond level of accomplishment. It's almost as if purchasing a cassette or CD is like purchasing a lottery ticket.
And, unfortunately, some independent business owners did go "all in." They splurged on tools as if there were no tomorrow. Couples who had gone bankrupt and a couple whose home had been foreclosed on were both in my crossline at the time. The question now is whether or not their financial difficulties were caused solely by their involvement with Amway. I'm not sure, but purchasing hundreds of dollars' worth of materials on a monthly basis can undoubtedly contribute to someone's financial difficulties. And these IBOs followed the advice of their upline. As a result, upline recommended this even though they were likely aware that these IBOs were experiencing financial difficulties. If they are willing to tell you to starve your children, it is unlikely that they will be concerned about your other concerns. Another function I attended was one in which a diamond lectured on how long you can put off paying a mortgage before it results in a foreclosure. Most likely, this was done to prevent people from going into debt to attend a major event.
When your uplines try to sell you dreams, it is a very sad situation indeed. When they are actually selling you broken dreams, it is even more distressing.
