It's no secret that franchise opportunities can be a lucrative source of revenue for entrepreneurs. The track record of certain franchises such as McDonald's is excellent, which means that if you are awarded a franchise, you stand a good chance of making a good profit. McDonald's the corporation conducts demographic research and will advise you on the location where you stand a good chance of succeeding in your endeavour.
Amway is marketed as a franchise by some uplines, I believe, in order to imply that an IBO has a better chance of success because they will follow a business model that the upline has designed themselves. Although all Amway Independent Business Owners (IBOs) are taught the same fundamentals, the Amway opportunity is far from a traditional business based on the franchise model.
Upline does not conduct any demographic research. Everyone in your neighbourhood would be included if they were willing to do so, but that would be equivalent to opening a dozen or more McDonald's restaurants in the same neighbourhood. That's a strategy for failure from the start. Individual business owners compete with one another for potential down line recruits as well as any potential customers, if any.
Some upline members refer to the company as a private franchise, which is simply a slick way to push Amway products on people. Another significant distinction is that many conventional franchises have a proven track record of success in the franchise market. In contrast, the vast majority of Amway Independent Business Owners (IBOs) either make nothing or lose money if they participate in the tools and functions. It is the tools and functions that, in the majority of cases, lead to the financial demise of most active IBOs. It is systematically draining resources from the ranks and ranks of the military.
In the case of Amway, prospective customers and information seekers should be wary of the term "franchise." Ask challenging questions and insist on truthful responses. Anything less than that, and you should turn around and flee!
