Is there anything more naive and disrespectful than people who assert that "if I can do it, anyone can" when they clearly cannot?
In a way, it appears as if they are saying, "If I can do it, then anyone else who isn't a fucking moron can, as well." Moreover, in the unusual event that you are unable to do the task, you are an even greater fucking moron than I am!”
Take, for example, the adolescent who committed suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge last year, which is arguably one of the world's most recognised suicide destinations. This child decides to jump just for the sake of seeing if he can do it. Fortunately, a nearby surfer paddled out to him and hauled him back to shore, chewing him out the entire time. From the start, the kid appeared to be in quite good shape. In other words, does this teenager go about bragging that anyone can leap over the Golden Gate Bridge without being wounded because he did it without getting hurt? He managed to survive the fall. If he can do that, then everyone can do it as well. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the vast majority of people who leap off the Golden Gate Bridge do so with no expectation of surviving.
Then there are those who argue that if I can ride a motorcycle, then anyone can. It also implies that if they can do it, anyone who can't must be a fucking moron, which isn't quite accurate. Not everyone possesses the necessary aptitude, balance, courage, or whatever else it takes to ride one of those beasts. Some people can. Some people are unable to. What about those who play football and believe that if I can do it, so can anyone? It's the same problem. Not everyone possesses the athletic ability or desire to run around a field pursuing a ball and tackling others, or to end up at the bottom of a dogpile, as demonstrated in the video.
When the Platinum or Diamonds spoke at Amway meetings, we used to hear them say things like "if I can accomplish it, so can you." It was something I heard a lot. Also, "it's so simple that anyone can do it." Yes, the meaning is clearly stated. If you can't accomplish what I can do despite the fact that it is SOOOOOOOOO easy, and I can do it despite the fact that I am already a loser moron, then you have to be the world's biggest fucking moron loser!
Not everyone has the ability to be a good, convincing liar.
The ability to deceive others into believing that the reason Amway items are so expensive is because the price reflects the great value/quality of the product is not possessed by everyone.
Not everyone possesses the characteristics necessary to be an effective cult leader.
Brainwashing tactics are not something that everyone can learn.
Not everyone is naturally gifted at playing pretend games. (I am the owner of my own company! I'm a business owner, after all!)
Not everyone has the ability to treat others with contempt.
Not everyone is preoccupied with money in the manner that Amway ambots seem to be.
Not everyone has a high credit card limit, which allows them to continue purchasing expensive Amway products.
Having transportation to and from the numerous Amway meetings is not always an option for everyone.
Not everyone appreciates being made fun of when they confess to being an Amway representative.
Not everyone has the ability to damage other people's life by trampling all over them in their zealous quest of worldly wealth and gain.
“If I can do it, so can you,” says the author.
How about sending out a big fuck you to every Amway cult leader that says something like that?
It makes no difference whether or not I "can."
"I'm not going to."
I'm not interested in your Amway nonsense, so please leave me alone!
