Accountability?

One of the most important lessons learned from upline was the need of accountability. If you mentioned anything, then follow through on it and complete it as promised. Make a point of being a man of your word, so to speak. That appears to be sound business judgement, and who would want to do business with someone who cannot be relied upon to fulfil their promises? When it comes to upline, however, it's all about "doing as I say, not as I do."

Upline anticipates that downline will reach their de facto PV quotas, purchase tools, and attend all functions and meetings as scheduled. After all, it's just easier to do business when everyone follows through on their promises, right? But what about the people above you? Where is the accountability on their part? They want you to put your trust in them and to spend your time and money in the business, as well as to follow their recommendations, but who is responsible for holding the upline accountable? In this day and age, why does upline appear to be exempt from accountability, particularly when their counsel costs you money?

In some ways, it appears that grey upline managed to get out of accountability by blaming downline for their own failure, even though the downline heeds all of the recommendations to the letter. That is the nefarious aspect of the upline system. They provide you with advise for which you pay a fee, and then they hold you responsible if their counsel is unsuccessful. Consider this: aside from making you feel a little more energised, did any of your functions directly result in greater sales or more downline members that you sponsored, or did the function simply result in another hole in your bank account? Or, even worse, did you incur debt as a result of your attendance at an inefficient function?

It baffles me how upline is compensated for their good advice, but no one calls out upline when the advice does not yield results. If you purchase something from a store and it does not function properly, you can return it for a refund. If your upline's advise does not work out for you, why not hold them accountable and demand your money back? What diamond has the means to reimburse money for ineffective advise, you might wonder.
