Copy Your Upline?

One of the things I heard as an IBO was that you may emulate your upline and ride their coattails to success. The gems would imply that at school, you may emulate someone and succeed. Well, easy enough. Anyone can clone or reproduce their upline, and it's easy and you can do it, right? Sounds like any Joe off the street can do it and succeed. That's Amway's potential selling point.

But can you copy your way to success? I mean you don't have a diamond pin, you don't get tools and functionalities. You don't have the credibility to speak as confidently as someone known as a diamond. You're not involved in higher-ups' top-level meetings. It's like a rank-and-file employee attempting to rub noses with the CEO. You might receive a grin and a hello now and then, but you won't become CEO. Yeah, affluent stories include some rags but they're the exception, not the rule.

I've got an established track record. How many new diamonds have arisen in recent years? Oh, there's some. I won't refute that, but how many new diamonds have qualified during the past 12 years? I can think of one female diamond coming from Hawaii and one or two new ones coming from the U.S. mainland, but you must remember that perhaps hundreds of thousands of IBOS went to the Amway business in the same time frame. To be honest, Amway's lottery featured much bigger winners than new gems.

Does that mean Amway can't succeed? Of course not, but if the chances of success is smaller than a lottery win, I'd say it's not a realistic business proposition. I know Amway apologists love to cite hundreds or thousands of new platinum, but because Amway's sales have either fallen flat for much of the last few years, I can only assume that there are as many old platinum as there are new ones. Also, if platinum fail to qualify, some diamonds probably dropped out too.

You can no longer copy your way to business success that I can copy LeBron James and become a great basketball player. But your upline wants you to think you can. Their revenue rests on such misconceptions.
