Are Some Amway Leaders "Bad" People?

 Throughout the many years of Amway's existence, the company's reputation in the United States and Canada has deteriorated. And it is not the fault of Amway the organisation, but rather of Amway Independent Business Owners (IBOs) who teach and condone unethical business practises. Of course, I'm not aware of any serious measures taken by Amway to penalise some of their disloyal Independent Business Owners (IBOs), but that's an other issue. However, it has become evident to me that some Amway executives are simply bad individuals on the whole. They will do and say anything, even lying to recruits, in order to earn a profit off of them. In order to make a living, they will offer false aspirations and dreams to the public.

It has come to my attention that young people have been discouraged from attending college in order to develop an Amway business during my blogging career. People have gone bankrupt and lost their houses because they listened to the counsel of their all-knowing uplines, something I have witnessed firsthand. Yes, individuals bear some responsibility for their acts, but I believe that some of the measures taken by some IBOs and IBO leaders are predatory in nature, focusing on those who can least afford to pump money into the business and the leech teaching systems such as WWDB or Network 21. Downlines are trained to put their faith in their upline and to listen to their counsel, and to make matters worse, the uplines then blame the IBOs for any problems that may occur in their businesses.

For example, I've seen ludicrous product promises such as people stating that drinking bottled water can cure illnesses and make you a better athlete. Of course, this water costs approximately $50 per case, whereas you could purchase ten cases of water at WalMart for the same cost. They assert that their vitamins are superior to those of competitors without providing any independent scientific evidence to back up their claims. Perhaps this explains why Amway vitamins appear to be eaten almost exclusively by Independent Business Owners (IBOs). Except for Independent Business Owners (IBOs), no one is interested in the stories or prices of Amway diamonds.

Despite statements by Amway fans and independent business owners (IBOs) that things are changing for the better in the company, there is ample proof that nothing has changed. Insane income claims have been made. The Dateline show exposed some bizarre claims, such as an IBO leader claiming that people could earn $250K per year with a part-time effort, but my friend Rocket discovered this gem, which involves an IBOAI member and WWDB/Amway crown ambassador claiming that you can make hundreds of thousands dollars per month: "I thought the Dateline show exposed some bizarre claims, such as an IBO leader claiming that people could earn $250K per year with a part-time effort." http://rocketsrants.blogspot.com/2011/09/amway-guys-they-sure-say-stuff.html

I'm curious as to if Brad Duncan himself earns that kind of income. Contrary to popular belief, his triple diamond brother (Greg) wasn't even near to that when his bankruptcy documents were published a couple of years back.

Amway hopefuls and apologists should understand that while the Amway firm itself may be absolutely lawful and pure, the uplines and AMO leaders are the source of many evils. It is precisely for this reason that many people are put off by the mere mention of the Amway name. Amway has the ability to stop them, but will they?

It is inevitable that there will be members of any organization or group who will act inappropriately or participate in activities that violate ethical standards. Unfortunately, the Amway industry is not immune to this reality, and there have been occasions in which some Amway leaders have been accused of participating in behavior that is either unethical or unlawful.


The following are some of the accusations that have been made against Amway leaders:


Methods of recruitment that are misleading or dishonest Some Amway leaders have been accused of employing deceptive methods to recruit new Independent Business Owners (IBOs), such as making income claims that are impossible to achieve or understating the amount of effort that is required to be successful in the business.


It is common knowledge that Amway puts pressure on its independent business owners (IBOs) to spend money on tools and events by encouraging them to attend training events and buy motivating and instructive materials. However, some leaders have been accused of putting pressure on their downline to spend excessive amounts of money on these products. This is sometimes at the expense of other vital expenses, such as paying bills or meeting the requirements of their families.


Embezzlement or other forms of financial fraud There have been instances in which Amway leaders have been accused of embezzlement or other forms of financial fraud. In these cases, it is said that the leaders took use of their position to steal money from their downline or misappropriate corporate cash.


Some detractors of the Amway company have said that members of certain Amway groups engage in behavior that is reminiscent of that found in religious cults. This is typically defined by a high amount of control and influence exercised by leaders over their downline, as well as pressure to adhere to a particular set of views or practices. Additionally, this can be characterized by the fact that there is a pressure to conform to a specific set of beliefs or practices.


It is essential to emphasize that even while there have been documented cases of Amway leaders engaging in inappropriate behavior, this is not representative of the company as a whole or of all Amway leaders. The Amway community is comprised of a lot of morally upstanding, trustworthy people who sincerely care about the success of their fellow members.


Before devoting one's time and resources to the Amway business, however, it is imperative for anyone who is contemplating becoming a distributor for the corporation to perform the necessary research on the organization and its top executives as part of their due diligence. Instead of allowing themselves to be pressured or influenced by their upline, individuals should establish distinct boundaries for themselves and continue to exercise control over their personal life as well as their finances.
